I think Aliy is hungry.

Dont' get me wrong, all my girls have always had good appetities, including Aliy. Some are down right obsessive about food (Kelly and Boom'r are the worst!) and some don't care as much as others (Ilsa and Abbey). Aliy has alway seen right in the middle. Not one to miss a meal, but doesn't go out of her way to "find" food. Until now.

Last Friday as I was driving to the dog shows in Albuquerque my husband called me and told me he thought I might be interested to know that Aliy was attempting to provde a little "extra protein" for her kids. He found her with a freshly killed ground squirrel which he quickly took away and disposed of.

This week I have seen Aliy in the yard, hunting ground squirrels with much more intensity than normal. She often comes in with her head covered in dirt and a very satisfied look on her face.

I don't want to know any more than that.

New WhiteStar Samoyeds Website!!

It still has a long way to go.... but the NEW WhiteStar Samoyeds website is finally up. I hope to move over a lot of stuff from the old site over the next few weeks/months.

There are some missing pictures, hope to get those up inthe next few days.

Eventually there will be more pictures of all the dogs, and the WhiteStar links page which was once the most complete on the web, will be updated for the first time in years.

Can you guess what these are pictures of??????

They are Aliy's babies!!!!! YES she IS pregnant. We went into the vet yesterday and instead of doing a blood test I went ahead and had an ultrasound done. There are defintely at least two puppies, we actually saw two at one time on the monitor screen. The vet thinks he saw a third as well. And there may be more hiding that we could not see. I will have her x-rayed in another few weeks and then we will have a better idea of how many to expect.

See the two red bars on the first picture? the area in between is the puppy. And see what it says is the size.... 2.9 cemtimeters.... just over an inch long right now. Hard to believe in just a few weeks they will be somewhere around 14 ounces and ready to be born!

Aliy Is Getting Fat!

I just got back from a 3 day dog show in Cortez Colorado and it looks to me like Aliy has gotten fatter in just those few days! Is this a sign she really is pregnant???

She is also acting a little weird. I was sitting on the couch trying to read and she insisted on sitting ON me for about an hour.

Who is Aliy and why does she have a blog?

Aliy is my Samoyed. Her full name is CH WhiteStar's Yukon Quest WS HIC but we call her Aliy or AlBear. Aliy was conceived in January 2000 and born March 16, 2000, first in a litter of six. She was named after Aliy Zirkle, the first woman to win the Yukon Quest Sled dog race (tougher than the Iditarod!) in January of 2000.

Aliy was bred a few weeks ago and we hope she is expecting puppies in mid June. When I have had litters in the past I have put up web pages to keep interested parties and prospective puppy owners up to date on what's happening with the litter. You can see the page I put up for Aliy and her littermates right here. It was a lot of work... I am hoping that doing it via a blog will make it easier. In case you are interested, Aliy was Yellow Girl in the litter.

Aliy was bred to a boy named Tiger (CH Silverplume's Hole in One) several times during the week of April 17 thru April 22. That puts her due date sometime between June 14 thru June 23. I hope to know if she is pregnant on May 24 when we visit the vet for a Relaxin blood test.

In the meantime I'll be putting info on Aliy and Tiger up here on the blog for people to check out.
